The Tidewater Chapter of US Lacrosse established this Scholarship in 2014 to recognize the top male and female lacrosse student-athletes from high school teams within the region. Seniors from the 26 public and private school teams were eligible to compete for the $1000 scholarship.
The competition for these scholarships was rigorous; the average GPA was above 4.4. The recipients demonstrated a combination of this high level of academic achievement, community involvement, and lacrosse participation and awards.
Of all the highly competitive candidates from across the region, two students distinguished themselves above the rest.
Mary-Parker White, Jamestown HS, has played lacrosse for 7 years and has also served as an assistant youth coach and HRLax youth official. She served as team captain for Jamestown this year. Aside from being a three sport athlete, Mary-Parker was also dedicated to various community service activities. She will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall.
Jacob Boynewicz, Cox HS, has been involved in lacrosse most of his life as both a player and youth coach. He was a 4-year starter for Cox and a captain both his junior and senior year. Jacob demonstrated a passion for numerous community service activities and was also selected first-team All-Conference and US Lacrosse HS All-American. He will be attending the Milwaukee School of Engineering this fall.
Congratulations again to these outstanding student-athletes.
We wish them both the best of luck next year!
